Cooper’s Christmas thoughts:
To all our pet lovers out there, Cooper has been chatting with the RSPCA about how to care for our pets over Christmas. Here is some of their advice:
- Even social animals do need a break from people over this time. So set up a spot where they can go when enough is enough. Discourage friends or family from approaching them in that space.
- Table scraps – every dog loves them, but we really should not be eating macadamia nuts, onion, garlic, avocado, grapes, fatty ham trimmings, cooked bones and just 50g of chocolate can be toxic and can be fatal to dogs.
- If your pet is travelling with you, never leave them in the car. Our summers are amazing; but the heat can be brutal so if your loved pet is left in the car remember temperatures rise quickly. Prepare and plan that is the key.
- If your pet is not travelling with you and is staying home being looked after by a trusted friend or service. You might consider logging your pets’ details with the RSPCA in case they need help.
- Finally, fireworks, not all pets appreciate the noise that comes with fireworks so prepare and plan. If you know there are fireworks happening, walk your pet and then set them up in a safe area with a few distractions.
